Drama is very much taught in a cross curricular way at The Gower School. Children engage in drama activities from Reception age by participating in plays, musicals, performances and class presentations.
Each Autumn Term each class performs a play at the Platform Theatre in Islington for their parents and relatives. In the classroom, the children learn to work as part of a community whilst honing their own performance skills. They take pride in these plays and for many it is their highlight of the school year. In addition, several Drama, Musicals and Theatre clubs are offered for children after school. Finally, classes regularly attend several London theatre to watch live musicals or plays.
Children from Lower School onwards are offered specialised teaching from our peripatetic LAMDA qualified teachers. Children work through stages of this drama curriculum and prepare for yearly drama exams. Beginning in Upper School, children can participate in the ISA Shakespeare Monologue Competition, where they memorise and film themselves performing one of Shakespeare’s plays.
