Nursery
The Gower School Nursery operates at our North Road, Islington sites and welcomes children from the age of three months up to five years old in a nurturing Montessori nursery environment. Our independent Nursery serves children across North London, including Islington, Angel, Tufnell Park, Kentish Town, Camden, Highbury and Highgate.
Parents can choose from a range of attendance options at our Montessori nursery, depending on what works best for you and your child. Your child can attend between two and five days a week either in the mornings or afternoons or all day. Our nursery is open all year round apart from one week at Christmas and Easter, and two weeks in August. You can see the full choice of opening times here:
At our Montessori nursery, children will enjoy free play, practical and outdoor activities, music and sports and all our nursery classes have an excellent pupil: teacher ratio. There is also a named Key Person for every child, which is core to our Montessori values. The Key Person looks after your child every day, building a special relationship with them and getting to know them and their preferences, as well as providing a vital link with the home and parents.
From toddler age, we refine and enhance children’s sense of perception using Montessori sensorial materials. This allows them to gain the maximum stimulus from exploration of the world around them. These sensorial experiences enhance children’s powers of observation and discrimination, broaden their vocabulary and contribute to their later understanding of formal educational concepts. These nursery classes start to introduce children to the Montessori curriculum with an emphasis on the creative, cultural, technological and linguistic elements of life and the children work with very visual, hands-on learning materials. We are also the only nursery school in north London that uses baby sign language to encourage better communication development in our children.
There is a huge range of events for the children in our Montessori nursery to enjoy and we welcome and encourage parents to join us for any of the regular events or workshops at The Gower School.
We are also very proud to offer parents with children at our nursery ‘My Montessori Child’. This is a bespoke secure record-keeping system for Montessori schools. We use this in our nursery and reception Montessori classes and parents are able to log into our system securely to see their child’s progress in real-time.
