Arctic Advocate: A TGS Pupil’s Letter to the Prime Minister

23rd September 24

Our school is proud to share that one of our Form 5 pupils has raised her voice to advocate for the protection of the environment. Over the summer holidays, this pupil took it upon herself to write a heartfelt letter to the Prime Minister, addressing the negative impact of CO2 emissions on the Arctic and the animals that live there.

In her letter, she outlined the importance of harp seals to the fragile Arctic ecosystem, explaining how these creatures play a crucial role in maintaining balance. She also highlighted the threats faced by other Arctic species, such as polar bears, Arctic foxes, and narwhals, due to rising temperatures and habitat loss. Her passion for environmental conservation reflects the values of responsibility and awareness that the school strives to instil in all its children.

Our pupil’s letter did not go unnoticed. Her words were not only read by staff at 10 Downing Street, but also by the members of the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs. In an inspiring turn of events, she even received a written response, thanking her for raising such important concerns. Her efforts serve as a wonderful example to her peers and a reminder that anyone, regardless of age, can play a role in protecting our planet.

Resources about harp seals and the Arctic biome can be read about on National Geographic Kids.
